The ED Team at Doctors Community Hospital hosted an Airway Training Day at the hospital this past September 6. In true collaborative form Emergency department and ICU physicians, APPs, nurses, and respiratory therapists practiced surgical and percutaneous cricothyrotomies, nasopharyngeal fiberoptic intubations, and video laryngoscopy. Representatives from Cook Medical, Ambu, Glidescope, Tri-anim, and C-Mac brought equipment and training mannequins. Physicians also practiced surgical cricothyrotomies on specially prepared pig tracheas. "This training gives everyone who responds to Code Airways time to become more familiar with the equipment and improve our team's response to life threatening airway emergencies," said Dr. Daniel Case, Emergency Department Director of Clinical Operations and Code Blue Committee Chairman.
