On October 27th, Dr. Anthony Jones was a guest speaker and panelist for Wards 7 & 8 community leaders K-2 awareness forum. The panel consisted of the US Attorney’s Office, the DC Office of Attorney General, and the Metropolitan Narcotics Police division. Dr. Jones provided a wealth of information to the audience and answered questions from an Emergency department Physician perspective. Dr. Jones addressed the many children in the audience of the importance of staying away from K-2 and all other drugs. Dr. Jones has experienced the most complicated K-2 cases encountered at UMC and discussed the implications on the added patient volume in the ED, EMS and Police. Additionally, Dr. Jones discussed with the US Attorney and Andrew Davis, UMC CEO, the harm K-2 has on the patients and the risk our providers endure as a result form its usage. Moreover, Dr. Jones provided facts about K-2 various street names and the fact that “Synthetic Marijuana” is not standardized, and behaves in a variety of ways. As a Native Washingtonian that grew up in Ward 8, Dr. Jones is an advocate for the community in which he serves.
