Dr. Smith started teaching Adventure Medicine in 2004 to University of Maryland medical students. During the summer months she teaches a Wilderness Medicine 30 credit CME course. She was also asked to host a Wilderness Medicine Weekend for students at Virginia Commonwealth University. It includes one day of wilderness training and then a “Medical War” with the students that allows them to apply what they have learned. Dr. Smith has written a 750 page E-Book on Wilderness Medicine. It includes nonstop hyperlinks and it allows the reader to learn frame by frame. The book is under consideration with the American Medical Association for a 52 credit CME course.
Most recently she was asked by the Federal Trade Commission to be one of four experts for Sports Medicine to help determine the standard of care for youth football for 2015. Dr. Smith also will be speaking at the International Sports Medicine Conference in Chicago in March of 2015.
