Hospital Medicine

Patient-Centered Care

EMA's Hospital Medicine providers play a critical role in the success of their Inpatient and Observation service lines by working closely with the Emergency Department and medical staff, creating efficient workflows.   We work closely with hospital administrators to optimize length of stay, resource utilization, quality metrics and HCAHPS performance.

  • EMA Hospital Medicine providers treat nearly 35,000 patients annually.
  • EMA Hospital Medicine providers manage both Inpatient and Observation service lines.
Our board-certified hospitalists recognize the importance and value of creating trusting relationships with each and every patient.
— Kavita Namjoshi, MD, Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at Reston Hospital Center (VA)

Patient-Centered Care

Providing pediatric services offers a powerful way to build trust with patients and families that will result in long-term relationships with the hospital. EMA has been providing high-quality pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric hospital medicine throughout the DC region for decades.

  • EMA offers flexible pediatric staffing options to meet each Hospital's needs, including partial day to full 24/7 coverage.
  • EMA pediatricians focus on developing a strong presence within the community, resulting in a large network of referring providers.
EMA pediatricians are trained to care for your child in a kind and gentle manner. Our teams take great pride in providing care that is tailored to the needs of pediatric patients using the latest best practices and pediatric equipment.
— Dr. J. Wesley Ruffin, MD, System Director of Pediatric Medicine

Urgent Care

Patient-Centered Care

Leading the charge in value-based medicine, EMA recognizes the emergency department is not always the most appropriate or cost effective location for patients to receive medical care. Demonstrating this concept, EMA has partnered with a number of facilities to provide physician and mid-level staffing within the urgent care setting. Our goal is to provide  urgent care  facilities with high quality, high efficiency providers that differentiate themselves in a service line that sometimes struggles with provider quality and continuity of standards.

Critical Care

Patient-Centered Care

Many groups laud the concept of "care continuum," often touting the sense that they are able to staff both the emergency department and hospital medicine program. What's missing from that equation is critical care medicine. EMA's critical care service line provides 24/7 coverage of our hospital partner's intensive care units and house-wide consultation. Our providers are board-certified, fellowship trained and industry leaders in their field. EMA recognizes there are vast efficiencies when the care continuum is truly a team effort.

Our fellowship-trained critical care physicians and nurse practitioners work collaboratively with our ED and hospitalist partners to create a rare but extremely rewarding continuum of care.
— David Remy, MD, Medical Director of Critical Care Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital (MD)

Patient-Centered Care

In coordination with EMA's expansive pediatric service line, our team of board-certified, fellowship trained neonatologists provide physician coverage of the neonatal intensive care unit in addition to hospital-wide consultation and attendance at deliveries. With over 20 years' experience in this service line, EMA has a demonstrated ability to scale and meet the dynamic landscape and needs of neonatal medicine.

  • 24/7 in-house physician coverage
  • Level III-A NICU comprised of 12-isolette unit

Sports Medicine

Patient-Centered Care

EMA proudly employs several nationally recognized sports medicine experts, including Dr. Ellen Smith, who has developed comprehensive emergency department sports medicine programs across the country. Given the high pediatric volume in and around the DC metro region, EMA believes sports medicine to be a key cog in our array of pediatric services. Utilizing EMA's advanced analytics department we can tailor a sports medicine program to the primary and secondary service areas of our hospital partners.
